I’m standing to be the next Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Staffordshire.
As your Commissioner I would prioritise the following issues:
I want to restore a visible police presence to our communities – this is a priority.
I will fight for a genuine increase in police numbers for Staffordshire – we are not getting a fair share of funds for extra officers.
I will fight for a properly funded Fire and Rescue service for Staffordshire, with the right training, equipment and powers to be able to keep us all safe and cope with emerging challenges.
I will work with the police, councils, businesses and drug, alcohol and mental health services to tackle the growing issues in our town centres, and to make sure that residents feel safe and confident to visit our town centres and support our businesses as they come out of the Covid lockdown.
I will invest in police and fire service support staff who do essential work behind the scenes to free up front-line police officers and firefighters.
I want police staff to have the powers they need to respond quickly and effectively – this is especially the case with PCSOs – they need the powers to be able to deal with more issues in our communities instead of having to wait for a warranted officer to turn up. This will also free up police officers to respond to more serious crimes.
I will work to get the police and fire services working together more effectively, but NOT at the expense of the independence and humanitarian role of the fire service.
I will work to support victims, and to stop people becoming victims in the first place.
I will invest in services that support our communities and intervene early to reduce and prevent crime and anti-social behaviour and nip problems in the bud.
